As previously stated, I love coffee. I love iced coffee, hot coffee, black coffee, flavored coffee and so on and so forth. And it isn’t just the taste of coffee that I enjoy. I enjoy the history of coffee. I enjoy the process of making a great cup of coffee. And of course I enjoy that boost of caffeine in the morning.
It is this love of coffee that has lead me on several searches to find new blends and try coffees from different regions. This search lead me to discover American Cowboy Coffee.
Unfortunately, many people don’t know that one of the richest coffee growing regions in the world is right here in the good ole USA. The coffee grown in this region is known as Kona coffee and is revered world-wide. It is in this region, located in Hawaii, that American Cowboy Coffee proudly grows their coffee beans. Buying American Cowboy Coffee not only ensures that you are going to have some of the best coffee in the world, but your money is going to an American company, employing Americans, to create a truly American product. American Cowboy Coffee is proud of their product and the good work they are doing. You can read more about the company HERE.
Now, let’s get down to the real issue at hand here. How does American Cowboy Coffee stack up against the hundreds of other coffees out there? One of the things I appreciate about ACC (I got tired of typing American Cowboy Coffee all the way out, so from now on I am calling them ACC. I also acknowledge of the irony of going into a long explanation of the abbreviation that probably took more typing overall then just continuing to type out American Cowboy Coffee) is they know what they do well, and they focus on that. What I mean is they don’t offer a million different types of coffees. In fact, they only offer 6 different coffees (one of them is decaf, which one could argue doesn’t count). I like this about ACC because it shows they aren’t spreading themselves too thin. They have high standards for the coffee they are going to sell, and they stick to it because its what they do best.
As far as personal preference goes, I am a big fan of their Bareback Dark Roast.
This is a coffee that, in the words of my grandpa, will put hair on your chest. I don’t believe in adding creme or sugar to coffee, and I tend to brew my coffees on the strong side. That being said, this coffee is like a strong kick in the face. In a good way, that is. The flavor is full-bodied and isn’t overly bitter. I found that, when it came to waking up in the morning, this coffee is perfect to get you wide-eyed and ready to face your day.
I could go on and on about the things I like about ACC. I encourage you to go and peruse their website and familiarize yourself with what really is a great American company.
Pros:
- No frills, just good coffee
- 100% American
- Know what they do well, and stick to it.
Cons:
- This coffee may be a little on the pricey side for the casual coffee drinker. A 1lb bag will set you back between $22-$30. However, it is worth it if you are a coffee aficionado and it makes a great gift for the coffee lover in your life (remember, Father’s Day is coming up!).
Modern Vintage Man Score: 4/5
